GP3 race winner and title runner-up Dean Stoneman has been signed onto Red Bull’s young driver programme alongside 16 year-old KF European karting champion Calum Ilott. The two Britons will pair Pierre Gasly to form next generation Red Bull Junior team, with both notably following similar routes to their predecessors Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen.
Stoneman who will be competing with DAMS this year in Formula Renault 3.5, said that joining Red Bull is “one of my life goals” and that “I’m thrilled about the year ahead. I obviously have all the support I need, and we have a great build-up planned before the start of the season.”
Meanwhile 16 year-old Callum Ilott who steps up to FIA Euro F3 this year said “Being in the Red Bull Junior Team is a privilege” adding; “Last season was very good for me so I was hoping for a good start in cars, but I didn’t imagine I would get this opportunity. The step up is quite something. I have a lot to learn. For this year I want to make a good impression, show my speed early and keep improving.”
