Driver of The Day Award Set To Be Introduced

A driver of the day award will be introduced in Formula 1 for 2016, where fans will be able to vote for their favourite driver throughout the course of the race online.

According to the FIA, the concept will see the commercial rights holder implement the concept with the help from broadcasters. “Viewers will be encouraged to vote online for their “Driver of the Day” throughout a Grand Prix, with the winner to be announced as part of the race broadcast immediately following the conclusion of the race, when the driver will be presented with their prize.”

Details on how the prize will be presented has yet to be revealed, however you can probably think along the lines of the ‘Top Rookie’ prize that gets given in some junior single seater categories, which sees that driver taking to the podium to collect their prize before the champaign spray.
