The 2016 IndyCar calendar has been revealed this week, with it featuring five ovals, five circuits, and six street courses.
Noticeably absent from the lineup is Fontana, NOLA Motorsports Park and Milwaukee Mile, whilst Pocono Raceway has been added back after its two-year sabbatical. Also making a return to the 16-race calendar is Road America and Phoenix Motor Speedway, with the season set to finish in September next year after complaints were made over the density of the calendar and long offseason.
This is also one of the reasons why we don’t see Fontana on the calendar, as their promoters wanted to see IndyCar return as the season finale in October rather than in mid June like this year.
“The 2016 season is defined by the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500,” said Mark Miles. “The historic significance of our season is marked by this legendary event and the return of several storied venues such as Road America and Phoenix.”
