No Further Action Regarding Raikkonen/Alonso Incident

The stewards have decided not to penalise Kimi Raikkonen or Fernando Alonso in todays incident that happened on the opening lap of the Austrian Grand Prix.

According to the stewards “No driver was at fault,” with the general consensus being that Raikkonen lost the rear of his car coming out of turn two.

“I don’t know exactly what happened before the crash, I had some wheelspin in an unusual place” said Raikkonen. “I was at a quite high speed, suddenly went left and end up there. I did not see anything coming, everything happened very quickly. Unfortunately at that time my race was over, it has been a poor weekend, now we have to think about next one.”

According to Ferrari it was not due to the engine mode that is inconsistent in its MGU-K power output, which is what we saw at Canada two weeks ago. The team believe it was something else that caused the wheelspin in third gear, which led him to the scene of the accident.
