Kimi Raikkonen will stay at Ferrari for the 2016 season, despite rumours that the Maranello team would be dropping him in favour of Valterri Bottas.
The team announced their decision today ahead of this weekends Belgian Grand Prix. “Scuderia Ferrari announces that it has renewed its technical and racing agreement with Kimi Raikkonen,” said the team in a statement. “The driver line-up next season will still consist of the Finnish driver and Sebastian Vettel.”
It was widely rumoured in Italian media that Raikkonen might be forced out the team he was once paid not to drive for in 2010, after a string of poor performances versus his teammate, four-time world champion Sebastien Vettel. For a while it was looking like Bottas might be his replacement, with Daniel Ricciardo also dropped as a potential successor. However it seems the team have reached an agreement with the Fin for one more year.
