Ricky Collard won todays second and final race for round one of the 2015 MSA Formula campaign, after snatching the lead from pole man James Pull at druids on the opening lap of the race. We also saw an appearance from the Safety Car on lap two after Sennan Fielding was tagged by Dan Baybutt, with the JTR driving needing a new front wheel after the impact damaged it.
Once Fielding’s stricken car was removed, the Safety Car came in and we went back racing at the end of lap four. Daniel Ticktum used the opportunity to grab third from Pull. That soon turned into P2 after we saw second-placed man Rafael Martins spin off at Clark Curve and stall his car, bringing out another Safety Car.
After the race restarted on lap nine the Arden of Enaam Ahmed had a minor excursion and lost five positions, going down the order to P14 before crashing out at Clearways with what looked like a puncture. Whilst that went on Louise Richardson took P12 from Darius Karbaley in the Richardson Racing car, and Ticktum started to turn up his pace and close the gap to leader Collard by lighting up the timing screens, getting it down to 0.4 in the closing stages of the race.
With just a couple of laps left Matheus Leist dropped down the order in the midfield, first getting passed by Sandy Mitchell for P6, then Jack Barlow for P7. But all eyes turned to Ricky Collard, who held off the late charge from Ticktum to win the second race of the championship at Brands from Pull, Herta, Smith, Mitchell, Barlow, Leist, Norris, and Fluorescu rounding out the top ten.
