Rowland hopes to “dominate” 2017 GP2 championship as he joins Latifi at DAMS

British ace Oliver Rowland will join Nicholas Latifi at DAMS this year in GP2, as the team announce their lineup ahead of testing next month.

Rowland joins after an impressive full-season debut in 2016, where he finished ninth overall after four podiums and even leading the championship at one stage. Latifi returns to DAMS after finishing 16th in the standings and achieving a podium at the opening round at Barcelona.

The 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 champion succeeds Virgin Formula E reserve Alex Lynn, having impressed with DAMS at the post-2016 season test in Abu Dhabi last November. Rowland will be hoping to build on his form at the team, which propelled Jolyon Palmer into his role with the Renault F1 team after he won the championship in 2014.

“The overall aim is to go and dominate the championship, that’s my personal target and is shared by the team,” said Rowland. “DAMS have won championships in previous years with Valsecchi, Grosjean and Palmer, so I’m coming to an outfit with a lot of pedigree and I’ll have to make sure I’m at the top of my game.”

“Last year was my first year and with the tyres it was sometimes difficult, but there were lots of positives and I had some good results,” he added. “Going into this year, I’ve got a lot better with my approach going into each race, so I’m looking forward to putting it into place. Everyone has been great so far and I’m excited to working with Nicholas to push the team forward.”
