Stoffel Vandoorne will be on standby this weekend as a replacement for Fernando Alonso, if he fails further tests on Thursday.
The GP2 ace who managed to join the club of drivers to score on their debut last weekend, will be at the circuit this weekend as McLaren’s reserve.
Alonso had to sit out the Bahrain Grand Prix due to a fractured rib he sustained in his crash during the opening race of the season at Melbourne.
Fears over whether Alonso’s injuries will have healed in time for this weekends race have been rip since he was told to sit out. He will undergo further evaluation before Practice gets underway, which will determine whether or not he will be able to take part in the weekend.
