Wehrlein to make F1 return in Bahrain this weekend

Pascal Wehrlein will make his return to Formula 1 this weekend at Sauber, having sat out the two opening rounds of the 2017 world championship.

After taking part in the first two practice sessions in Melbourne for the Australian GP, Wehrlein decided to sit out the remainder of the weekend and the Chinese GP on the basis that he didn’t think he wasn’t fit enough.

With the increased physical demands that the drivers are facing as a result of the new aero regulations, Wehrlein was unable to train over the winter after an accident during the Race of Champions in January which caused damage to his back and neck.

Having now recovered Sauber say Wehrlein is ready to replace Antonio Giovinazzi this weekend, who crashed out of last weekends race when he lost control of his Sauber in changeable conditions and smashed into the pitwall barrier.
