Zoom F1 charity auction raises over £24,000 for Starlight Children’s Foundation

The fifth annual ZOOM F1 charity auction managed to raise £24,737 in aid of Starlight Children’s Foundation last week.

The gala featured photos taken by F1 personalities and drivers alike, including Bernie Ecclestone, Daniel Ricciardo, Lewis Hamilton, Eric Boullier and Adrian Newey.

Chris Routledge from COYS was on hand to auction them off to the audience, which featured many motorsport personalities including Max Mosley, Anthony Hamilton, Lawrence Tomlinson and Jolyon Palmer. Celebrity personalities were also on hand including Made In Chelsea’s Stephanie Pratt, lead singer of ‘M People’ Heather Small and broadcaster Nicki Shields.

The biggest donation of the night was for an entry by former Manor F1 boss Graeme Lowdon, whose sketch of Jenson Button raised £2,000. Lewis Hamilton’s artsy photo of the LA sunset also went for £1,950 while Daniel Ricciardo’s surfing selfie went for £800.

“I’d like to thank everyone who made the fifth ZOOM event possible – the teams, drivers and everyone else who took a photo, Bernie Ecclestone, our sponsors, the guests and, of course, Starlight,” said Christian Sylt, co-founder of ZOOM. “We’re very proud to help them continue to make dreams come true for sick children.”

Starlight is a non-profit organisation which helps brighten the lives of terminally ill children and their families. They do this by granting them ‘wishes’ whether it be to become a policeman for a day or meet personalities from their favourite sport.

“The money raised will be used to brighten the lives of Starlight’s seriously ill children by helping to grant wishes-of-a-lifetime” said Neil Swan, Chief Executive of Starlight. “It will also provide a year-round hospital entertainment programme to distract children from the pain and isolation often caused by their illness and giving both them and their families happy memories, whatever the future may hold.”

Those who wish to enter the online auction which features photos taken by Martin Brundle and Carlos Sainz, can now bid at www.coys-zoom.co.uk.
